Does another person mention you in a Facebook message or with a photo? Receive an automatic notification and determine whether the message appears on your timeline.

When someone tags you, this person makes a link to your profile page. For example, someone can indicate whether you are in a photo or show that he or she was with you at an event or location. The message is also visible to your friends through your timeline. Don’t you want that because you don’t like being in a photo? Or you think that not everyone needs to know who you had a drink with. Then set up Facebook so that you must first give permission before the tag appears.

To check friends’ tags, enable timeline checking for everyone’s tags:

  • Log in to your computer via www.facebook.com
  • Click on the triangle on the top right
  • Click on Settings.
  • Click on Timeline and tag in the left column.
  • Next to ‘Check’ is ‘Do you want to check messages in which you have been tagged before the message is displayed on your timeline?’ Click on Edit.
  • Click the button with the text Disabled and choose Enabled.

If you are already tagged in an item and you don’t like it, you can remove the tag or ask the person who tagged you to delete the message:

Click in the top right of the message on the down arrow.

Click Report / Delete Tag.

Indicate why you want to remove the tag and click on the desired option.

Click Continue.

To remove tags from multiple photos at once:

  • Click on the triangle on the top right.
  • Click Activity Log.
  • In the left column, click Photos in which you have been tagged.
  • Click the check box (or checkboxes) to the left of the messages from which you want to remove a tag.
  • At the top of the page, click Report / Delete Tags.
  • Click on I want the tag to be removed from the photo.
  • Click Remove tags from photos to confirm.

Note: you have only removed the tag and removed the message from your own news overview. The original message is still on Facebook and is therefore visible to friends of the person you tagged. To completely delete the message or photo, you must submit a request to the person who posted it. You do this as follows:

  • Click on the triangle on the top right
  • Click Activity Log.
  • Click on Photos in which you have been tagged in the left column.
  • Click the check box (or checkboxes) to the left of the messages from which you want to remove a tag.
  • At the top of the page, click Report / Delete Tags.
  • Click on I want the tag to be removed from the photo and also the photo to be deleted.
  • Click Remove tags from photos to confirm.
  • Select a reason for removal.
  • Click Continue.
